Friends of Maryhill Park: AGM Tuesday 19th August

Hello Friends!

It’s that time of year again… After a long summer break it is time for the Friends’ AGM. This will be held at 7pm, Tuesday 19th August, Community Room, ASDA Summerston.

Due to various circumstances we are really going to need some people to step up and be office bearers, so have a think about if you would be able to commit to this.

The minutes of the last meeting can be viewed here.

  1. Hi!

My name is Gary Marshall and I am a teacher of Geography at John Paul Academy summerston. We are currently reviewing our S1 Geography course and we are planning on introducing the John Muir Award to all S1 pupils. This award aims to provide learners with the opportunity to learn about wild spaces and to conserve them. We aim to have all learners identifying, exploring and conserving wild spaces within the school grounds. But we realized that we have much larger wild space on our doorstep.

We are looking to set up a partnership with Friends of Maryhill park so that we can send classes of S1 pupils to explore the park, conduct surveys and volunteer to conserve the park in a number of projects and initiatives such as litter picks even wild flower, tree planting etc.

We hope that you may find this idea and initiative useful and beneficial. I was hoping of maybe organising a meeting with someone from your party to discuss ideas and ways to plan for conservation projects within the park.

I hope this message finds you well and look forward to discussing with you future plans.

    thank you

    Gary Marshall
